 Guidance News:

Now that second term has come to an end, seniors are nearly finished the application process and have been hearing back from colleges. It is a waiting game for some still. Many colleges have financial aid deadlines, and parents who have not yet filed the FAFSA may do so at www.fafsa.ed.gov Some colleges have other requirements for financial aid which are detailed on each college website. Seniors are asked to keep their counselors informed of college acceptances or any questions they have. A reminder to seniors to keep checking the Naviance website for scholarship information, as it is updated regularly.

As third term began, we have met with all juniors in the computer lab to introduce them to Naviance. They have all logged in and begun using this fantastic online software program which has college, career and scholarship information, serves as an information management tool during junior and senior years, and can help with forming a resume. We have also given out Program of Studies Books and course selection sheets and discussed next year offerings to the class as a whole in the auditorium. At this time we also discussed SAT and ACT sign up and advised students to register for the SAT in May at Braintree High School. We begin the process of meeting with juniors to choose courses for next year. We will have two junior workshops to discuss the college search process and then will meet individually with students to work on a preliminary list. Two parent meetings are scheduled and a mailing will go out shortly.

As always if you have any questions, feel free to contact your child's guidance counselor.

Announcement
February has arrived, second semester has begun and the winter athletic season is approaching the final weeks. If you ever want to experience a tenacious pace of time and life, be apart of a school. Seasons change, young people mature and the events and activities at school have a carousel existence. Time is a factor that dictates our expectations and responsibilities.

Hopefully the Mid Year Exams were successful. Attendance at school was excellent and the cooperative and diligent atmosphere allowed for focus on assessment of learning. With the beginning of the second semester, there are new expectations and demands for all of our students. Our senior students are closing in on the conclusion of the college planning process and now the decision phase is upon them. We wish the Class of 2012 the very best as they plan the next phase of their life. Our juniors, sophomores and freshmen continue to grow in so many ways. Most importantly, the learning curve is growing steep as students grow academically, mature emotionally and seek positive social situations.

We have a number of important events occurring that should support learning in and out of the classroom. We have the Science Fair on February 14th, guidance programming will begin for the 2012/2013 school year and we have the annual February Vacation in the month of February. We hope all of our students are enjoying their educational experiences at BHS.

Let us all keep the BHS PRIDE Mission strong in our hearts and mind. Being partners in learning, meeting expectations with an urgency of responsibility and respect, finding joy in our day to day involvement with people and activities, celebrating diversity and supporting the differences in people, places and things, and remaining committed to our personal and school's expectations of educational excellence, will lead us all to success.
